The Palacio del Marqués offers a constructed area of ​​more than 800 m2. It houses many fascinating cultural traits of the nobility of the Canary Islands. Built in the early 15th century, this building was the seat of the Government of the Canary Islands for more than 200 years, until it was destroyed and burned by marauding pirates in the 16th century. Reconstruction of the palace began in 1618, designed and built by some of the best architects, stonemasons and carpenters of the time.

Many of its distinctive doors, ceiling beams, and African hardwood floors are original to the reconstruction over 400 years ago. There's even a secret passage leading to the Castillo de Santa Bárbara, the imposing fortress built on top of the Guanapay volcano. In its oldest part we find archaeological hallmarks of the Guanches, ancient aborigines of the Canary Islands, a stone with podomorphic engravings to which magical powers are attributed.
